Personal-Educational
Mr.
Cheatham was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 1, 1958, and
graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now known
as Truman State University) in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Education
Degree (with Highest Honors). He graduated from the University
of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1988 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence
Degree (with Honors). Mr. Cheatham served on active duty with
the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1985, achieving the rank of Captain.
Mr. Cheatham concluded his active duty tour as Commander of an attack
helicopter troop with the 6th Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas, and
served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1985 to 1988.
Professional
Mr. Cheatham is involved primarily in general real estate transactions,
real estate and commercial litigation, education and employment litigation,
intellectual property litigation, in both state and federal courts,
and insurance defense (including realtor E&O, escrow/title agent
E&O, and title insurance defense). Mr. Cheatham is the author
or co- author of several continuing legal education articles focusing
on the application of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the duty
of good faith and fair dealing in the title insurance industry, as well
as on mechanic's liens, foreclosures, escrow agent duties, bad faith
in contracts, homeowner's disclosure forms, and various other realtor
and land title issues, and has spoken on these topics at various seminars
held by the Texas Land Title Association, Texas Land Title Institute,
Texas Land Title School, and Tarrant County Bar Association.
